Sometimes author wants certain users to input data into Excel spreadsheet. However, other non-authorized users should not change data in the Excel workbook.

Solution

Excel 2010’s range protection uses password to prevent un-authorized change to file. Here are steps to set it up.

  1. Select cells that authorized users can change001 - Select Cells
  2. Click “Allow User to Edit Ranges” option in “Review” tab 002 - Click Allow Users to Edit Ranges
  3. Enter Range name and password 003 - Enter Range Name and Password
  4. Protect the worksheet 004 - Protect Sheet
  5. Excel asks for password if the range is selected.005 - Password Required for the range
