Problem
Some older software is not compatible with Windows 7. The software can be run in Windows XP in Windows Virtual PC. However, problem arises when older software needs to access communication port such as RS-232 port.
Solution
Physical ports in Windows 7 can be mapped to Virtual PC.
- Make sure that communication port is available in Windows 7 through Windows 7 Device Manager. Also note down its port number.
- Click on Tools -> Settings in Virtual PC title bar.
- Map Com1 in Virtual PC to Com4 in Windows 7. After that, software in Virtual PC and access com 4 through Virtual PC com1.
